Les cloches sont mises en vibration par secouement si elles disposent d'un ou de plusieurs battant(s) attaché(s) à l'intérieur ou à l'extérieur de leur corps ouvert.
Dans le cas d'un battant externe libre, elles sont sonnées par frappement.
