Loin de l’image traditionnelle de l’Alsacienne coiffée du grand noeud noir popularisé par Hansi, les coiffes les plus courantes en Alsace aux 18e et 19e siècles sont les coiffes dites “à bec” et les bonnets “à couture médiane”. Leur décoration varie selon les occasions, les lieux et l’appartenance sociale. Neben den von Hansi in seinen Illustrationen verewigten schwarzen Schleifen als traditionelle Kopfbedeckung der Elsässerinnen zählten die sogenannten „Schneppehüb“ und „Schlupfkappen“ zu den geläufigsten Kopfbedeckungen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Ihr Dekor variierte je nach Anlass, Ort und sozialem Stand.
