Evangelia Kranioti est une artiste et réalisatrice grecque basée en France. Elle a fait des études de droit (Université nationale d'Athènes), d’arts visuels (École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris) et de cinéma (Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, Atelier Scénario de La Fémis). Son travail embrasse photographie, video et installation.
En 2016, elle a reçu deux prix Iris de l’Académie hellénique du cinéma pour son premier long métrage documentaire, Exotica, Erotica, Etc. (2015, 73' Berlinale Forum) sélectionné dans plusieurs festivals internationaux (IDFA, BFI London, Göteborg IFF, IDF Thessalonique, Karlovy Vary IFF, Sarajevo IFF, etc.) où il a gagné de nombreux prix (Emerging International Filmmaker Award à Toronto Hot Docs, Prix du public au Festival Films de Femmes Créteil, prix Fathy Farag Semaine de la Critique, Cairo FFI entre autres). Son deuxième documentaire Obscuro Barroco (2018, 60' Berlinale Panorama) a reçu le Prix du jury TEDDY à Berlin, le prix FELIX au Festival de Rio de Janeiro, le prix du meilleur documentaire international au Guanajuato IFF, ainsi que deux prix Iris de l’Académie hellénique du cinema, entre plusieurs autres récompenses.
En juillet 2019, son exposition personnelle Les vivants, les morts et ceux qui sont en mer aux 50èmes Rencontres d’Arles, a été saluée par la presse internationale et a reçu le prix Madame Figaro / Women in Motion. Actuellement Evangelia Kranioti travaille sur son premier long métrage de fiction, en parallèle à un hommage cinématographique à sa ville natale, Athènes.

She studied law (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), piano (National Conservatory of Athens), visual arts (École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs of Paris) and cinema (Le Fresnoy–Studio national des arts contemporains, Atelier Scénario, La Fémis).
In 2016 she received two Iris awards (Best Documentary & Best Newcomer) from the Hellenic Film Academy, for her debut documentary feature Exotica, Erotica, Etc. (2015, 73’) which premiered at the Berlinale Forum and screened in various international festivals (IDFA Amsterdam, BFI London film festival, Göteborg IFF, Thessaloniki IDF, Karlovy Vary IFF, Sarajevo IFF etc) receiving numerous awards (Emerging International Filmmaker Award at Toronto Hot Docs, Audience award at Festival Films de Femmes Créteil and Fathy Farag Prize at Film Critics’ Week, Cairo IFF among others).
Her second documentary feature Obscuro Barroco (2018, 60’) premiered at the Berlinale Panorama to critical acclaim and received the TEDDY Jury Award, the FELIX Prize at the Rio de Janeiro IFF, the Best international documentary award at the Guanajuato IFF, and the LILY Award at the MIX Copenhaguen among others. The films was also nominated for the Heterodox award at the 2019 Cinema Eye Honors, the Glasshütte Original — Documentary Award at the Berlinale, and the Art Award at the Sheffield Doc/Fest.
Her recent retrospective solo show The Living, the Dead and Those at Sea at Les Rencontres d’Arles 50th anniversary edition, received overwhelming reviews in the international press and was awarded with the Madame Figaro / Women in Motion Prize. Evangelia Kranioti is currently working on her first fiction feature film, in parallel with a cinematic tribute to her hometown Athens.
